What is TMS?
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive therapy that uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain related to mood, behavior, and cognitive function. It is best known for helping people with treatment-resistant depression, especially when medications or talk therapy have not provided enough relief. During a typical TMS session, magnetic pulses are delivered in a set pattern to a specific part of the brain to restore healthy brain activity.
How MeRT® Builds on TMS
MeRT®, or Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy®, takes the foundation of TMS and uses a highly personalized approach. Before starting treatment, each patient receives a quantitative EEG (qEEG), which is a non-invasive brain scan that maps the brain’s electrical activity. This scan helps identify areas of the brain that may be underactive, overactive, or not communicating efficiently.
Using this data, our clinician creates a treatment plan that is tailored to your unique brainwave patterns. Unlike traditional TMS, which targets the same general region of the brain for every patient, MeRT® adapts the stimulation based on where your brain needs support. The goal is to help guide your brainwaves back into a more balanced and organized rhythm.
Why Alpha Brainwaves Matter
One important focus of MeRT® is optimizing alpha brainwaves. These brainwaves are associated with calm, focused alertness and emotional regulation. When alpha waves are out of sync, either too slow, too fast, or unevenly distributed, it can lead to symptoms such as anxiety, depression, or trouble concentrating. By encouraging the brain to return to a healthy alpha rhythm, MeRT® may promote better sleep, greater mental clarity, and more emotional stability.
Key Differences Between TMS and MeRT®
Although both TMS and MeRT® use magnetic stimulation to influence brain activity, the primary difference lies in how the treatment is guided. TMS uses a standardized approach that targets the same brain region in all patients. MeRT®, on the other hand, is based on your brain’s data and designed to target your specific needs using a personalized protocol.
For people who have not responded to traditional therapies or who are looking for a more individualized method, MeRT® may provide a more precise and effective solution.
Who Might Benefit from MeRT®?
MeRT® is showing promising results for individuals with depression, anxiety, PTSD, traumatic brain injury (TBI), autism spectrum disorder, sleep disorders, and other conditions. Many patients report feeling calmer, more focused, and emotionally balanced. Improvements in sleep and mental clarity are often some of the first changes people notice.
Since each brain is different, outcomes can vary. But for many individuals, MeRT® has been an important part of their journey toward long-term healing and improved well-being.

A New Path Forward
If you or someone you care about is struggling, MeRT® may offer new hope. While it is not the right fit for everyone, our personalized and non-invasive approach could be the missing piece in your path to feeling better and regaining control of your mental health.
