Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About MeRT® / Advanced rTMS
At The Insync Brain, we understand that patients and their families have many questions about MeRT® (Magnetic E-Resonance Therapy). Below, we’ve compiled some of the most frequently asked questions to help you better understand how this innovative therapy works.
What is MeRT® Therapy?
MeRT® (Magnetic E-Resonance Therapy) is a non-invasive, personalized neuromodulation therapy that combines Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) with qEEG-guided brain mapping. This advanced approach helps identify and optimize brainwave activity to improve cognitive function, emotional regulation, and overall brain health.
How does MeRT® work?
MeRT® begins with a detailed qEEG analysis to identify irregular brainwave patterns. Based on the results, a customized rTMS protocol is created to stimulate specific areas of the brain, encouraging more balanced neural activity. This process is designed to help with a variety of neurological and psychological conditions.
What conditions can MeRT® benefit?
MeRT® therapy has shown promising results for those with conditions such as depression, anxiety, autism, adhd, PTSD, TBI, cognitive decline, and sleep disorders.
Is MeRT® the same as traditional TMS?
No. While MeRT® utilizes TMS technology, it is highly personalized compared to standard TMS. Traditional TMS follows a one-size-fits-all approach, while MeRT® tailors each therapy plan using qEEG data to target specific brainwave imbalances for optimized results.
How long does a MeRT® session take?
Each MeRT® session lasts approximately 20 minutes. Most therapy plans involve daily sessions (Monday – Friday) over 6 weeks, depending on the patient’s needs and response to therapy.
How soon can I expect to see results?
Every patient responds differently, but many report improvements in sleep, mood, focus, and overall well-being within the first few weeks of therapy. Long-term benefits often continue to develop with additional sessions.
What side effects are associated with MeRT®
MeRT® therapy is a well-tolerated, non-invasive therapy with minimal side effects, such as slight fatigue, headaches, or activation as the brain adjusts. These effects typically fade quickly, and most people find them to be manageable. Seizure is a potential but extremely rare risk associated with rTMS, occurring in fewer than 1 in 10,000 of patients. For perspective, you’re significantly more likely to experience a seizure while playing video games, which affects approximately 1 in 4,000 people due to flashing lights and patterns. Our team closely monitors each patient’s response to ensure a comfortable and positive experience throughout the process.
Will insurance cover MeRT® therapy?
MeRT® is not currently covered by insurance. However, to help make treatment more accessible, we offer payment plans for those who qualify.
How do I know if MeRT® is right for me or my loved one?
If you or a loved one are struggling with neurological or mental health challenges, MeRT® may be an effective solution. We recommend scheduling an EEG assessment to see whether MeRT® is the right fit for your needs.
