Personalized TMS at The Insync Brain: What to Know

Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy (MeRT®) is a non-invasive, advanced approach that uses advanced brain mapping and personalized TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) to help improve brain health and function. At The Insync Brain, we understand that starting a new therapy can feel uncertain, and we’re here to make it as clear and comfortable as possible. Whether you’re exploring customized TMS for anxiety, depression, PTSD, autism, or another neurological challenge, our experienced team will guide you through every step. Our goal is to make the entire process simple, supportive, and empowering, so you can feel confident from your very first visit.

Step 1: qEEG Brain Mapping—Your Personalized Starting Point

Before treatment begins, you’ll have a quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) done. This simple, non-invasive scan measures your brain’s electrical activity and helps identify areas where communication may be disrupted or out of sync.

The entire process takes about 45 minutes. First, a technician will gently clean your forehead, earlobes, and a small spot on your chest to remove any residue, ensuring we get clear readings. A heart lead will be placed on your chest and small ear clips will be attached to your earlobes. Once the right cap size is measured, the technician will fit the cap to your head and apply a special gel to each electrode. This gel makes it possible to capture your brain’s electrical signals accurately.

After the scan, you may leave with a bit of gel still in your hair, but don’t worry — it washes out easily in the shower.

Step 2: Initial Consultation

After the qEEG, you’ll meet with the provider to review your brain map in detail, discuss your symptoms and medical history, and learn how MeRT® may help. Your provider will explain what the brain map shows, how it relates to what you’re experiencing day to day, and answer any questions you may have. Together, you’ll go over the recommended treatment plan, what your sessions will look like, and realistic goals for your time in care. This is also a good time to talk about any concerns or practical needs you have, so we can make sure you feel comfortable and confident moving forward.

Step 3: Personalized TMS Begins

You’ll begin with two weeks, or 10 sessions, of personalized TMS treatments. TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain that may be underactive or out of sync. When guided by your qEEG results, MeRT® tailors these pulses to the precise frequency your brain needs, encouraging more balanced and organized brainwave activity. This helps restore healthy neural connections and promotes better communication within the brain.

On your first day, a technician will conduct what’s called a Motor Threshold test. This is very similar to a simple reflex test at the doctor’s office and ensures that we deliver the lowest amount of stimulation needed, which helps minimize any risk of side effects. The technician will start by taking careful measurements of your head to map out the exact spots for stimulation. Then, while you rest your hands flat in your lap, the technician will deliver gentle pulses to your motor cortex to observe tiny movements in your hands. The pulses will be increased slowly until the right response is seen, and then you’ll be ready for your first TMS session.

Each TMS session lasts about 20 minutes and is usually scheduled at the same time each day, Monday through Friday. During each visit, your technician will check in with you about your mood, sleep, daily sunlight, and screen time. These questions help us monitor your habits and your progress, so we can make sure you’re getting the most out of your treatment.

Step 4: Follow-Up qEEG and Review

After your first two weeks, or 10 TMS sessions, we’ll conduct a repeat qEEG to see how your brain is responding to MeRT®. This follow-up brain map helps us see the progress you’re making and fine-tune your protocol if needed, so you continue to get the best possible results. Just like with your initial qEEG, you’ll meet with your provider once the new results are ready. Together, you’ll review how your brain has changed so far, talk through any adjustments to your sessions, and make sure you feel supported every step of the way.

A typical MeRT® treatment course lasts about six weeks in total. These follow-up visits are a valuable opportunity to check in on your progress, share how you’re feeling, and talk with your doctor about your plan moving forward.
